Labor-aid, Doula “Rey”bor-aid, and more!

“Labor-aid” is a magical, mega-hydrating mock lemonade. I originally found out about this through mommypotamus.com (link below) - it’s just genius! Every ingredient is helpful in labor AND it’s delicious!

I really like red raspberry leaf tea as well, which if you haven’t heard, is amazing in assisting your uterus through labor. I wanted to tone down the acidity of the aid so I added some freshly muddled raspberries and the red raspberry leaf tea for an Arnold Palmer style labor-aid. It is so tasty and refreshing.

Keep in mind that your senses may be heightened in labor so this might be too much flavor in the thick of it. I also recommend a more simple electrolyte solution: warm water with honey and a pinch of salt.

See below for benefits and all three recipes!

— BENEFITS —

Lemon - refreshing, helps with nausea and boosts immunity

Coconut water - hydrating, provides electrolytes and rich in minerals

Sea salt - restores electrolytes and causes body to retain water for better hydration

Honey - unrefined sugars are easier to process, immunity strengthening properties (especially local honey!), boost of energy and a great sweetener!

Trace mineral drops - contains iron, zinc, selenium, manganese, iodine (check with your provider before consuming trace minerals)

Red raspberry leaf tea - tones uterus and stimulates contractions

Muddled raspberries - high in vitamin C, folate, potassium, fiber and antioxidants

Classic Labor-aid

  • 2 cups filtered water

  • 2 cups coconut water

  • 1/2 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice

  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt

  • 1/4 cup raw honey

  • a few drops of trace minerals drops (optional)

I recommend heating a cup of warm water (not boiling, just warm) to mix the honey into the rest of your ingredients. The rest is fairly easy, just mix together, pour over ice (if you’d like) and put in the fridge for delivery day!

Original recipe from Mommy Potamus

Doula “Rey”bor-aid

  • 1 cup coconut water

  • 2 cups filtered water

  • 1 cup chilled red raspberry leaf tea

  • 1/2 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice

  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt

  • 1/2 cup raw honey (or to taste)

  • 1 cup of muddled raspberries

As stated above, I recommend heating a cup of warm water (not boiling, just warm) to mix the honey into the rest of your ingredients. I added extra honey to this because the tea can be a bit bitter. Mix the rest together and pour over ice.

Simple Electrolyte Boost

  • 8 oz warm water

  • 1 tablespoon honey

  • pinch of sea salt

This is an easy way to get electrolytes into your body, especially if flavor is beginning to be overwhelming. Mix these ingredients and enjoy.
